BEKI POWELL is a multi-media artist, DJ, writer, and model born & raised in New York. Her artwork ranges from oil paintings to large-scale installations, marked by vivid, dreamy colour palates and heavily defined imagery. While her roots were founded in visual art, her creative energy eventually channeled into music – within which she applied the same principles. A few key words: soul, flow, energy, feeling. Always in the business of RESPECTING the GROOVE.
Over the past fifteen years, Beki has performed in clubs all over the world, most notably specializing in vinyl as she sweeps dance floors with an old-school, soulful flavor that packs a timeless groovy punch. Beki is known for her flawless mixing and a larger-than-life charisma, in and out of the spotlight. She tailors each performance to the crowd and occasion, her versatile collection ranging from potent soul-hitting house, to old-school funk & disco, to R&B and hip-hop, all layered and programmed in a fresh and intentional style that is uniquely Beki’s. Also a prolific writer, Beki often incorporates spoken word into her DJ performances.
Beki has held residencies in NYC and Miami (The Electric Pickle, ATV, Mad Radio, No 3 Social, Output/Panther Room, The National Underground, and more) and plays frequently in Montréal. Since moving to Miami in 2014, Beki has hosted multiple radio shows and co-founded two female DJ collectives. She was awarded Best DJ by Miami New Times’ People's Choice Awards. She currently co-hosts monthly radio show Birds in Paradise airing every first Thursday of the month on Jolt Radio.
Over the past two decades, Beki has participated in dozens of art exhibitions, both solo & collaborative. An extremely prolific artist, since childhood, Beki has not stopped generating creative output. Her range is incredibly vast. She is versatile in every sense of the word. Whether it be art, music, writing, modeling, & so forth, she does it all. Most importantly, she does it well. Her motives are nothing more than the pure, intrinsic enjoyment of conceiving an idea & making it reality.
